# Tube End Trimming & Facing

After expansion, the protruding tube ends are trimmed and faced flush with the tubesheet, ready for tube-to-tubesheet welding.

Once the tubes are installed and expanded, there is usually excess tube left at each end. It is trimmed off and faced so that every tube end sits at the same height with a clean, square face – the basis for consistent tube-to-tubesheet welds.

Our trimming and facing tools are developed in-house.

## Scope

- Tube ends on condensers, heat exchangers and desalination evaporators
- Tube materials: titanium, stainless steel, copper alloy

## Work steps

1. Check tube projection after expansion
2. Trim off the excess tube
3. Face the tube ends
4. Remove chips and clean the end faces
5. Proceed to welding

## Duration

Scheduled in sequence with expansion and welding; duration depends on the number of tube ends and site conditions.

## Quality control

- Tube end height and face condition checked
- End faces cleaned before welding
