### Common issues in boiler and heating plants

- **Scale.** Scale on the inside of water-tube and fire-tube boiler tubes cuts heat transfer and has to be cleaned out.
- **Leaks.** Vacuum leak testing of the tubes and the tube-to-tubesheet joints pinpoints where a leak is.
- **Retubing.** Overhauls and retubes are usually scheduled before or after the heating season.
